Some of Europe’s biggest energy stories for 2014 will be centred around Poland, the UK and the shale gas business. Poland’s Lewino wells are set to become the first commercial shale play in Europe. As the Levino site produced nearly 1700 m³ of shale gas a day a permanent horizontal well is already planned for July 2014, it will mark the start for Poland’s shale industry and potentially bringing a new prosperity for the region

Poland’s Potential New Prosperity

All energy costs energy and resources to produce. For the purpose of extracting shale gas hydrocarbons are spent at the wellhead for fracking from the consumption of Diesel fuels. One fracking operations typically consumes 5 million gallons of groundwater [approximately 19,000 Cubic Metres of Water]. As Diesel fuel consumption in Poland needs to be imported as much of one third of the wealth produced in Poland’s Shale Fields will be exported. As Poland is fast becoming a dry country the cost of groundwater used for fracking has long since become a major issue for the Polish Environmental lobby. Continue reading

Over the last decade energy costs in retail have doubled and by 2013 the cost of energy for the ill prepared will be more than 2% of sales. The ultimate prize for energy cost saving in this industry is of course free energy generated onsite and from a sustainable and renewable green source. PowerCan® 200 + “The Poop Scoop In The Loop”

Solid wastes cause congestion in the Municipal sewage its the end of the life cycle for some systems; but small scale gasification systems like the PowerCan® 200 lend a helping hand. Solid wastes can be extracted in line upstream and at a local level. “This significantly reduces the impact on the water treatments system at the end of the line” says SOLIDEA’s Steve Walker “A containerized system is unobtrusive taking up no more space than a few parking places, it processes the extracted solid waste or sludge”.

The PowerCan® 200 system produces a bio-waste pellets in line. The pellets are then fed into the  PowerCan® 200 CHP unit to generate energy. CHP produces heat which is used for the sludge drying process. The electricity generated keeps the whole pellet production process operational 24 hours per day with most of the electrical energy produced by the CHP is sold to the local power grid as  renewable energy. SOLIDEA has developed a truly sustainable value added human waste to energy [H-WtE] system with the PowerCan® 200.  .

The Basics of “Watergy” for Countries without Pants

Container Deposit Legislation [CDL] is soon to be adopted throughout the European Union and it would do best building on the success of the CDL in Sweden. The aim of CDL is to improve the efficiency of recycling, reducing the impact at the landfill, it targets beverage packaging sorting, where a nominal deposit provides an economic incentive to clean it up. By taking the packaging back to the supermarket or recycling center the bearer may redeem the deposit.

Practically all consumption-ready soft drinks, alcohol and other cold beverages sold in Sweden have a deposit or “pant”. A pant is often mistakenly referred to as a tax. “A pant is not a tax because you get it back” Says SOLIDEA’s Steve Walker “and now, its not only beverages, many kinds of aseptic packaging may also now carry pants”.
